| Power Projects and Power Generation in Kerala, India |
| "Power Development in Kerala has been guided
primarily by resource
endowments within the State. While the State has abundant hydro
potential
it does not have any reserves of coal or oil or gas. Power development
in Kerala has been based therefore mainly on the exploitation of
hydropower.
The growth of hydel power continued at a reasonable rate till 1976 when
Idukki Power Project was commissioned. Since then further hydro
development
has been held up somewhat due to environmental considerations. The
State
has to turn increasingly thermal power and its share from Central
Sector
thermal/nuclear power plants for meeting its growing demands."
